===========================
We are all closer to Virgil and Horace and his Odes than we are to the post- literate snowflake strangely postmodern and literal
Horace was born in B.C. 65 in Venusia, a small town in the Hellenised south-eastern region of Italy. A villa quote:
Mitte sectari, rosa quo locorum Sera moretur
Cease your efforts, to find where the last rose lingers
(The White House was founded in Rome because Palladio had inspired Monticello)
Atque inter silvas Academi quaerere verum And seek for truth in the garden of Academus
Non omnis moriar I shall not die
Ut pictura poesis
by Horace: who loved his Falernian villa wine and the poetry of Sappho as black-leathered Nikita may have often done, unzipping
Christopher Truman has been evolving line art prints drawn using rotring rapidograph pens and black ink on Lana Mills cartridge paper since 1997. Site images have been scanned from the off-white cartridge paper originals. They can be printed on flecked white oriental parchment. A group may use papers ranging from soft sepia to a sheer white.
His work may principally be seen as creating Zen narratives, loci or aids for meditation, a metaphysical 'storyboard' even. Finding a zen at Selinunte, Cathay can venn the neo-Platonic. In a group of prints, he mediates certain motifs in Vermeer; with another, creates a parallel parallel world to explore. A virtual infinity is quested.
Each group of six to nine prints as panels may be 'read' left to right, or, wall mounted, to the centre; or right-left. Rack-mounted, the running order may vary.
Christopher Truman started his groups of prints with experimental Image Text arrays. The work now lives much in counterpoint to his poetry, reflective of many journeys.
Staying on for a third year, canary squares of wild marble coming together, a butterfly, the mimosa trembling
an even paler guest, in love with a paradigm, japonica returning in awe a ninth time bent to clip a fresh honeysuckle cigarette.
